Not your usual MRT Technical Problem

I saw an interesting article today about a scuffle in one of MRT's stations. Now you may and probably have experienced the rush hour in the Philippines. The Manila Metro Rail Transit System is one of the popular public transportation medium that caters 650,000 daily passengers, however with its current condition its only supposed operating capacity is 450,000.

A lot of your everyday workers really on this medium of transport because of its convenience and speed. However, you can not avoid your every day sardine packed coach during the morning wee hours if you're part of the 8 to 5 worker. Pushing, name calling, rushing, cutting in line, and among others are evident during this time.

Apparently, 3 passengers decided to slug it out that which halted the train for 5 to 7 minutes.

"Around 10 p.m. on Wednesday, MRT 3 northbound passengers thought that another technical glitch stalled the operation (for about five to seven minutes) at the Cubao station in Quezon City...but it was a three-way brawl involving three women, including a 17-year-old, inside the train's first car," reports Dona Policar on Inquirer.net.

If you did read the article, all parties seemed to have reached a settlement.

When I used to work in Makati, I witnessed and experienced a lot of interesting situations while riding the MRT from brawls, to running into closing train doors, people jumping into the tracks, slippers falling into the tracks, probably too  many to list here. An excerpt from Dona Policar's report she mentioned Bunny Bunienik sharing a story she experienced while taking the train home. “When I rode the train, there was this mother who plowed through the crowd in front of her. Instead of apologizing, the woman said, ‘Be patient because we’re Filipinos. We’re not disciplined.’ Many passengers cringed but nobody reacted.”

Which brings me to my point, are we not all DISCIPLINED? Do we have this norm in the Philippine society that lacking DISCIPLINE is an excuse openly accepted? I will probably write another article for that as this post is getting long.

As always thank you for reading, feel free to leave a comment below. I welcomed all forms of negative and positive comments.
